Susan Rehfeld passed away on June 27, 2025 in Grand Prairie, Texas at the age of 69. She was born in 1955 to her parents Bruce and Dorothy, where she then graduated from Duncan High School in 1973. Her love of history led her to earn bachelor’s degree from Phillips University in 1977.
Susan's life was marked by her deep commitment to her family and community. She shared a loving marriage with her husband, Mike, and together they raised their son, David. Susan also stayed connected with her brother, Barry, and his wife Barbara over the years. Family connections were important to her and Susan was known for sending a handwritten card for her loved ones’ birthdays, anniversaries, and holiday celebrations… even if they showed up a few days late.
Susan was actively involved in her son’s education and extracurricular activities, always asking what needed to be done or how she could help. She was very involved in groups ranging from the Parent Teacher Association to the Band Boosters, where she showed her unwavering support for the students and staff responsible for them—as long as she could stay inside out of the Texas heat. Her love for her family and community may have only been surpassed by her love for her dogs… that her husband and son just happened to take care of for her.
In her quieter moments, Susan loved to read. Whether paperback, hardback, or electronic, Susan was known for her passion of reading for pleasure or just to learn something new. In between books, she was known to call friends and family just to check in, get updates on their lives, and share the updates of mutual friends. In an age marked by emails and texting, Susan was well known for leaving people voicemails to “call me back” and sending “snail mail”—the USPS will miss her deeply.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Bruce and Dorothy. She leaves behind a legacy of love and service that will be remembered by all who knew her. A celebration of life will be held at Dean-Massey-Burge funeral home in Grand Prairie on July 12th from 10 am to 12 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider making a donation to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org).
