She was born on May 24, 1942 in Roscoe, TX to Lee Durward Herring Sr. and Ann Jack Herring.
Suzanne was a lifelong resident of Grand Prairie, a 1960 graduate of Grand Prairie High School, graduated Baylor University with a BA in Mathematics, and completed her Master's degree in Early Childhood Education at Texas Women's University. She enjoyed a lengthy career as both a classroom teacher and developmental math and reading specialist with the Grand Prairie Independent School District before retiring in 2003 to pursue her passion for quilt design and fabrication and to cruise the world with her Best Ol' Buddy and husband of 48 years, John Arthur Maas.
In addition to her husband, Suzanne is survived by her daughter Jody Elizabeth, son Joel Andrew and daughter-in-law Erin, son John Frederick and daughter-in-law Rena, sisters Dana and Deborah Herring, brother Lee Durward Herring Jr. and sister-in-law Patti, grandchildren Nicholas, Madeline, Emily, and Andrew, uncle Col. Tom B. Strother, Army Ret. and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at 10am at First Presbyterian Church, 310 SW 3rd St., Grand Prairie, TX, 75051. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 from 7-9pm at Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home, 2951 S. Beltline Rd. Grand Prairie, TX, 75052. Interment will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 20, 2012, at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church Grand Prairie, American Lung Association, or the American Cancer Society.
