Thomas Alan Dwyer

Thomas A. Dwyer, 89, passed away on January 1st, 2025. A native of New Jersey, Tom moved to Texas in 1982 where he continued to fly for American Airlines until his retirement in 1995. During his employment with American, Captain Dwyer flew the Boeing 707, 727, 757, 767 and the Douglas DC-10. Tom began his commercial flying career with Flying Tiger Airlines and Eastern Airlines flying the Lockheed Constellation.

He joined Trans Caribbean Airways in 1967 which merged with American in 1971. Dwyer flew the F-84, F-86 Sabre and F-105 fighters for the New Jersey Air National Guard. His unit was recalled to active duty by President John F. Kennedy in 1961 due to the Berlin Wall crisis. He participated in Operation Stairstep which saw 216 aircraft cross the Atlantic Ocean to their bases in Europe in the largest mass deployment of single engine fighters in military history. He retired as a Major from the military in 1977 after nearly 24 years of service. While living in New Jersey, Tom was a member of the New Jersey Wing-Civil Air Patrol which he joined in 1949 as a cadet and rose in rank to Lt. Colonel before retiring in 1993. After his retirement from American Airlines, he built and managed O'Dwyer's Irish Pub on Trinity Blvd. in Euless. Tom was affiliated with the VFW, American Legion, Amvets and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara, brother Donald, sisters Betty and Jean and son Timothy. He is survived by his sons: Todd Dwyer and his wife Dorothy of Lake Como, NJ; Kevin Dwyer and his wife Elaine of Seattle, WA; Thomas Dwyer of Wasilla, Alaska, and Kenneth Dwyer and his wife Cindy of Bayville, NJ. He is also survived by his cherished grandsons: Tyler Dwyer and his wife Brielle, Cal Dwyer and his fiancé Alison, Ken Dwyer, and Joe Dwyer. He also leaves behind three stepdaughters: Sonja Stiner, Brenda Stiner and Cheryl Stiner, all of Grand Prairie, TX.

After a private service, Mr. Dwyer will be interred at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
