Troy Carroll passed peacefully into heaven the morning of June 8, 2024, at the age of 99. Troy was born in Atlanta, GA on November 19, 1924 to Leona and Troy, Sr. He spent his childhood growing up in rural Alpharetta, GA, enjoying the companionship of his younger sister, Betty Joyce and his cousin Dora. After graduating from Milton High School, T.L. (as he was known in his early years) went to North Georgia College.
T.L. entered into active service in the U.S. Army on May 22, 1943. He fought in Normandy, in northern France, where he was wounded and received a Purple Heart. After the war ended he came home and completed college and earned a law degree from the University of Georgia. Later he met and married Dotte Perry, the love of his life, on August 22, 1953. Troy began working for the Social Security Administration in 1958---a 26 year career that took him and his family to several states before his retirement. T.L. and Dotte had two daughters, Durand and Camille.
Throughout his life, Troy was good at making lasting friendships. He loved to sing and in his later years he could still remember the lyrics to songs he sang back in the 1940s. T.L. enjoyed singing fun songs that he made up or rewrote with his own lyrics. He had a song for everything and everyone. Troy loved his family and his friends and kept up with us all by phone.
Troy will be missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his daughters Durand (Rick) Hays and Camille (Rob) Lassetter; his grandchildren, Arwen (Mike) Elders, Eric (Deborah) Hays, and Zachary (Luci) Hays; and great-grandchildren, Jude, Anika, Heidi, Lovisa, Evan, and Hope. He is also survived by numerous other family members and friends who also loved him. He was preceded in death by his wife Dotte.
A remembrance of Troy’s life will be held on Monday, June 24, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. at Faith Bible Church, 1437 W. Pleasant Run Road, Desoto, TX. A family visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at Faith. On Thursday, June 27, 2024, there will be a military service at 10:15 a.m. at the DFW National Cemetery.
