Walt was born Sept 24, 1937 to Anthony & Esther Hatchel in Ennis. He moved to El Paso at an early age & attended Houston Elem & Austin High schools. Walt enlisted in the U S Navy, & spent most of his time in Japan. Upon his return from the military, he went to work for Mountain Bell, later know as Southwestern Bell, as a lineman & then in management.
He then married Wanna Benton & raised her three children, Lynnette, Diana, & Clay as his own. He & Wanna had one son, Wesley.Walt was very active with Horizon Golf Assn where he spent many happy hours with is friends; yet he found time to play baseball, coach little league & assist with softball for the blind. Even though golf was his passion; he loved baseball & football.He & his wife Wanna, moved to Grand Praire in 1994 due to his wife's illness.
Walt married Margie Haller in 1998.He will be rembered as a kind & generous person. Walt supported the disabled veterans, mentally challenged & various other orgainizations.Mr. Hatchel was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Dan Cooley; stepson, Clay Benton; & stepdaughter, Michelle Hatchel.
Survivors - Wife,Margie; son, Wesley Hatchel & wife, Karen; stepson, Glenn Grones; stepdaughters, Lynnette Dell & husband, Ben; & Diana Myklebust & husband, Randy; sister, Beverly Roberts & husband, Bernard; brothers Anthony Hatchel, Jr. & Clarence Hatchel & wife, Silvia; grandson, Tyler Hatchel; step-grandchildren, Clay Allen Benton, Shane Gianes, Krista Gianes, Michael Brooks, Ryan Dell, Alisa Rogers, Melissa Lambert & Charles Grones; step-great-grandchildren, Jade Gianes, Delylia Brooks, & Helen Lambert.
