Wanda "Claryce" Talbert was born in Kilgore, Texas on November 22, 1938. She passed away peacefully of complications from Alzheimer’s on June 7 at the age of 86.
Preceding her in death was her husband of 50 years, Wayne Talbert, and her parents Clarence and Mildred Reed. She is survived by her three children: Teresa Moon (Mark), Scott Talbert (Laurie), Alan Talbert (Bethany), and seven grandchildren: Matthew (Natalie) and Courtney Moon; Steven (Shelby) and Billy Talbert; and Andrew (Breanna), Daniel (Autumn), and Emma Talbert and remembered by countless others who have been touched by her life.
Claryce, as she was better known, graduated from Brazosport High School in 1956. She met her husband, Wayne, in Freeport, Tx, when she was 14 as she walked by his house on her way home one day. Wayne thought she was pretty cute and met her and they were married four years later. Claryce attended Stephen F. Austin University for one year where she studied Home Economics during their engagement and then worked at Texas A&M University after they were married while Wayne finished his degree.
She raised their three children and worked in the library at Briarwood school, where Scott attended and later at the library at Tallowood Baptist church for many years. Wayne and Claryce have shared their lives serving in their church and opening up their home. They were a welcome home to many individuals from China and other countries as they started a new life in our country. She gave freely of herself, and modeled Jesus’ hospitality and love to her family. She served faithfully in Tallowood’s prayer room and sent encouraging notes to those in need of prayer. She also enjoyed time on the sailboat with Wayne and her family and was always kind to have a meal or a need met for those she loved or anyone God put into her life.
The Celebration of Life Service will be held on June 28th at 10 AM at Tallowood Baptist Church at 555 Tallowood Drive in Houston, followed by a reception at the church. The memorial service will be live-streamed at https://tallowood.org/watch. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any gifts be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, American Heart Association, American Bible Society, or the Tallowood church library.
