William D McKinney

August 28, 1941January 2, 2013

After a lengthy illness, Bill McKinney passed on January 2, 2013 into the heavenly presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Bill was born August 28, 1941 in Carlsbad, New Mexico to Dan and Vesta McKinney. He was raised in Tucumcari, New Mexico on the family farm. On March 10, 1963 he married Ruth Powell in Hereford, Texas and together they started their own family.

During his working career, Bill worked in the printing industry as a plant manager and salesman. He also owned and operated his own real estate brokerage while living in Hobbs, New Mexico.

Bill enjoyed life and brought joy and laughter to those around him. He developed a strong work ethic that he adhered to his whole life. Yet, he never let hard work stand in the way of having fun and sharing the joy of the moment. He loved being around people and derived great satisfaction from helping others. He especially loved his grandchildren and was very proud of each of them. He was a dedicated father and a devoted husband.

The outdoors were always preferred, whether it was golfing, fly-fishing, hiking through the mountains or just exploring where the next side road might lead.

Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth and his sister, Merilyn Bohm. He is survived by three children and six grandchildren. His son Mark McKinney of Greenville, TX is married to Shona and they have four children, Daniel, Nathan, Erin and David. His son Gary of Lubbock, TX is married to Alicia and they have two children, Garrett and Morgan. His daughter Karen of Fort Worth, TX is married to Jim Goodwin. He is also survived by his brother Dan R. McKinney of Decatur, TX.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons. The family asks that memorials be made to assist Alzheimer’s research.

A memorial service will be held January 19, 2013 at 10:30am at St Matthew United Methodist Church 2414 Hitson Lane Ft Worth, TX 76112

Bill was a caring Christian brother, a great friend, and tremendous encourager. I remember some wonderful times that we had in the choir at FBC-GP, and Bill was such a super help when I needed something done while putting on a production. I will continue to remember Bill and Ruth with wonderful thoughts. My prayers are with the family, especially Karen..a truly talented young woman.
