Bernice’s love story with Jack was the perfect 1950’s romance movie. As high school sweethearts, they married on September 24, 1955. Jack and Bernice were best friends, caring confidants, and true soulmates. Together, they created a beautiful family filled with joy. Jack loved how Bernice took care of him. She was a devoted mother, listening closely to her children and sharing her loving advice. As a grandmother and great-grandmother, she was always prepared with a warm embrace.
Bernice’s hearty laugh and surprising quick wit drew people in. As a faith-filled woman, she warmly included others in her circle, making them feel special and always welcome. Anyone who knew Bernice has a memory filled with laughter to look back on.

Following her career as a nurse, Bernice used her skills as an accomplished seamstress to participate in the Mater Dei Quilt Circle at St. Gerard Parish and spent 25 years with the Sparrow Auxiliary making receiving quilts for the hospital nursery. Bernice spent hours on puzzles, sudoku, and crosswords to keep her mind sharp. She was a smart bridge player and was an avid member of bridge clubs throughout the Lansing area. She was a great cook, loved shopping a sale, and made the best rice krispie treats.
