She was preceded in death by her parents Ben & Susie Sorenson, five brothers, two sisters, and her beloved husband Roderick (“Right, Rod?”, “I’ve been right for 60 years, Bernice.”).
Bernice is survived by her children Charlie, Jim & Beverly, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Bernice contributed to the WWII war effort while working at Haskelite which manufactured materials for tanks and combat ships. This is where she met her future husband, Rod.
Bernice was a fun-loving, caring, eccentric and highly social personality. She loved to talk and never hesitated to engage total strangers in conversation. Together, Bernice and Rod, enjoyed dancing and socializing at the VFW and American Legion Boat and Canoe Club, and repeatedly won first prize for their highly creative Halloween costumes.
Visitation for Bernice will be held on Monday September 20, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Reyers North Valley Chapel where a funeral service will immediately follow at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be to the right of Rod at Fairplains Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Bernice may be made to the American Legion Post 2; 401 N Park St NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49525
