Bonnie Jeanne Van Eck

Bonnie J. Van Eck, age 79 of Grand Rapids, passed away on December 11, 2021 at Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital. Bonnie was born in Grand Rapids on January 14, 1942 to Arthur & Anita (Sandy) Pearson.

With a passion to help people and support her community, Bonnie spent many years working for the Rape Crisis Center as their volunteer coordinator as well as dedicating her own time to serve. She also worked for many years as the president of the Sparta Co-op Nursery Schools.

Bonnie’s favorite career was raising her four children. With lots of mouths to feed, it was no surprise that cooking was more than a hobby for her. She perfected her recipes with the family favorite being her Brown Chicken. Bonnie even had some of her recipes published in local cooking columns. A dedicated mother she was active as a leader in the Campfire Girls while her daughters participated.

A woman of faith, Bonnie was a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament.

A devoted wife, a dedicated mother, a loving grandma, a blessed great-grandma and caring sister, Bonnie will be remembered for her generosity to her community, love of family and God, and fun loving spirit.

Bonnie is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert; her children Angela (Darryl) Tawney, Robert (Kerrie) Van Eck and Arthur (Paula) Van Eck; her grandchildren: Conner Sullivan, Haley, Cierra, Sydney and Lauren Tawney, Noah (Kenzie), Nicholas (Morgan), Jonah (Bailey) and Benjamin Van Eck; her great grandson Oaklee Van Eck, and her sisters Mary Ann Rewa, Pamela (Russ) Yuhas as well as many other relatives.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her daughter Darcy Sullivan and her parents.

A memorial service is being planned for January 14, 2022 at 11:00 am at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish, 2275 Diamond Ave, NE, Grand Rapids, Michigan.
