Burton Lee Uecker, age 85, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 25, 2019. Burton was born in Grand Rapids in late Spring of 1933 to his parents, Emil and Lila Uecker. He graduated from Creston High School in 1951 and went on to receive his Bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University. Burton was drafted into the U.S. Navy where he proudly served his country. He was instrumental in the inception of the food service program at Porter Hills and worked in various positions over the years. In retirement, Burton discovered a love for gardening and woodworking. He also found the time to volunteer with many organizations including his church and the city wide food drive. Most importantly, he loved his wife and family. He spent many hours attending grandchildren’s events and camping with those he loved dearly. Burton is preceded in death by his parents, and 4 brothers, Roger, Larry, Dennis and Kim. He will be missed by his wife of 63 years, Lois; children, Holly (Daniel) Uecker-Herman, Heidi Uecker, Bryan Uecker, Heather (Tim) Remy, Leslie (Don) Clifford and Lisa (Greg) Pohlad. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday evening, March 28, 2019 from 5-8 pm at Reyers North Valley Chapel. Funeral Services will be Friday, March 29, 2019 at 11 am at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2 Michigan St. NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503. Another time of visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the funeral beginning at 10 am at the church.
