Charles Wilbur Califf, aged 92, was reunited with his wife Aileen in heaven on April 13, 2013. He was also preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Carolynn, brother Bob, and sister Betty Gamble. Surviving are his son Randy (Carol) Califf; grandson Chris (Jesamin) Califf; step-grandchildren Brandon Kroupa, Deeka (Gavin) Tift, and great-granddaughter Alexis Kroupa. Charles and Aileen were 1939 graduates of Creston High. They married and Charles worked for Weber Showcase Co. before he began his career with General Motors. He enlisted in The United States Marine Corps. in 1942 and proudly served his country during WWII with the 6th Marine Division. He saw action throughout the Pacific including Guadalcanal, and Iwo Jima. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1945. He and Aileen enjoyed their cottage on Big Star Lake throughout the late 1960’s and mid to late 1970’s. They also enjoyed traveling regularly to New Mexico to visit Aileen’s sister Helen. In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at North Park Presbyterian Church, 500 N Park Street, Grand Rapids, Michigan. You may greet his family for visitation one hour prior to the service from 10-11 am. Military Honors will follow under the auspices of The Kent County Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to North Park Presbyterian Church or Faith Hospice.
