After graduating from high school, Dave proudly served his country in the US Army. Being part of the military police, led to Dave’s full time career. After his honorable discharge, he went to work in security at Fisher Body/General Motors where he retired after 47 years.
Working for GM, may have played a role in Dave’s passion for cars. A collector of many things, his car collection was his favorite and, he always had a Cadillac or Corvette in the fleet. He enjoyed car shows wherever he could find one, and always admired a beautiful automobile.
Dave’s passion might have been his collections, but his heart belonged to his family. He was an avid storyteller and maker of memories. He loved to share his tales about family ancestry and history. He was a master on his iphone and ipad and kept up with his family especially his grandkids on social media. The countless hours at the pool with the family, talking, laughing, and of course a bucket of chicken was one of his favorite pastimes. He was always up for a road trip or even just a trip to the apple orchards with the grandkids. He also loved boating which looking back are “now funny”, but sometimes they were almost disastrous boating excursions. He had the best sense of humor and was known for his quick wit, which always led to laughter. The memories and stories, Dave shared in his lifetime will be treasured forever.
Dave is survived by his children Michael (Sherry) Butterfield, Charles “Chip” (Sarah) Butterfield and Patty (Tyce) Companger; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; his nephew Gordy Butterfield and his niece Nancy Oelerich and many other relatives. He was preceded in death by his son Mark Butterfield.
