Dolores “Lorie” Jean O’Boyle, age 70 of Grand Rapids, passed away on September 9, 2021 after a brief battle with cancer. Lorie was born in Grand Rapids on March 12, 1951 to Gilbert & Jacqueline (Bunno) Sharkey.
On May 12, 1983, Lorie married the love of her life, Michael O’Boyle who survives.
Lorie spent her career working for Meijer on Alpine. She worked in various departments over the years, but she enjoyed photo and greeting card departments the most. She retired after nearly 30 years with the same store.
When she wasn’t working, Lorie was usually found in her garden or painting. She found the beauty in the world and would put her love of sunsets and flower blooms on canvas. Lorie found the sounds of the beach relaxing and loved to travel with Mike to the Florida Keys, Islamorada her favorite place to visit.
Most importantly, Lorie was dedicated to her family. She loved surrounding herself with “her people” and was most at home when her kids and grandchildren visited. Family gatherings, whether it was for a big holiday party or a Sunday backyard BBQ, were important to Lorie and she loved using this time to make memories.
Besides her husband of 38 years, Lorie is survived by her children John Doane, April Doane and Melissa (Ben Brink) Corlin; her grandchildren: Anthony, Matt, Nick, Josh and Faith Doane, Jordin Doane, Connar Lowe, Kiya, Rayann and Silas Brink; her great-grandchildren Kaydence and Liam and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Lorie was preceded in death by her parents and sister Nancy Douglas.
A memorial gathering with a time of sharing will be held on Tuesday September 14, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Reyers North Valley Chapel.
