Dorothy Thelma Belliel, age 98, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 26, 2022, in Richmond, Virginia while visiting family. She was born December 30, 1923, in Comstock Park, Michigan to Theodore Peter Scheidel and Sarah Eva Scheidel. Dorothy attended Holy Trinity Catholic School and graduated from Comstock Park High School in 1942, where she was active in theater and the school’s first cheer squad. Dorothy married Richard Frank Belliel on November 24, 1945 in Comstock Park and had two children, Nancy and Daniel. Dorothy and Rich lived a full and fun-filled life of traveling, “going up north” and spending time with friends and family, including her siblings, her children, her grandchildren and her many nieces and nephews. Dorothy loved her family and was extremely devoted to them.
Dorothy “Dottie” was preceded in death by her husband Rich Belliel, parents Pete and Eva Scheidel, sister Geraldine Mae Scheidel Belliel Lambert and brother Theodore Lewis Scheidel. She is survived by daughter Nancy Armock (Don), son Dan Belliel (Maggie), sister Lois Scheidel Vander Meer, grandchildren Kari Soldaat (Ben), Jeff Armock (Shelby), Sam Belliel (Natalie), Will Belliel (Hannah), Tommy Belliel (Colleen) and great grandchildren Owen, Ansley, Riley, Haley, Cruz, Poppy and Maddie. Dorothy is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at Reyers North Valley Chapel, 2815 Fuller Avenue, NE, Grand Rapids from 4pm to 7pm. Mass celebrating Dorothy’s life will be held Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1200 Alpine Church Road, Comstock Park at 11am, preceded by visitation starting at 10am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
