Elaine Arletta Cooper

Elaine was born on June 18, 1951 in Grand Rapids to Harry and Mary Ann (Newhouse) Smith. Elaine graduated in 1970 from Creston High School and went on to complete courses at Grand Rapids Baptist College. She was a devout Christian and her faith was a very important part of her life. She attended North Park Baptist Church for many years. At North Park she was involved with Friendship Club, taught Sunday school, and was previously a deaconess.

Elaine was known for being welcoming to everyone and loved preparing homemade food. She loved fishing and camping, and finding agates on the beach at Grand Marais. In her spare time she enjoyed doing crafts of all sorts from card making to crochet. She also was very close to her three sisters and always enjoyed spending time with them.

She is survived by her children Brenda (Larry) Wagner and Andrew (Eden) Cooper; her sisters Carol, Judy (Clarence Blair), and Gail; and her 5 grandchildren Catherine, Hannah, Isaac, Evan, and Maya; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her brother Warren; her mother Mary Ann and her father Harry; her brothers in-law Joe and Doug.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday September 23, 2023 at North Park Baptist Church, 3365 Coit Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49525 at 11:00. Friends may visit with the family at the church beginning at 10:00. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elaine’s name may be made to North Park Baptist Church.
