

The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. Everett Thomas “Ev” Boersma, age 92, was taken home to be with his Lord on Friday, September 11, 2015. Everett was born on September 17, 1922, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Nick and Bertha Boersma. He proudly served with the U.S. Marine Corps in WWII with the amphibious tank division in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign, and trained for the elite Marine Raiders unit. His service earned him a Purple Heart, the Victory Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal with 2 bronze stars, and the American Campaign medal. He and 12 other Marines were called to Hollywood to appear in the movies "Gung Ho" and "Guadacanal Diary" at 20th Century Fox. Following the war, Ev was employed at Standale Lumber and Home Furnishings, from where he retired after many years of service. For the past 28 years, he wintered in Port Charlotte, Florida, and summered in Six Lakes, Michigan, where he was a member of New Life United Methodist Church in Lakeview. He was an avid reader and traveled worldwide. He will be remembered for his kindness and compassionate help. Everett is survived by his wife and best friend of 43 years, Elaine; their children, Tom (Rachael) Boersma, Cindy (Bob) Ehrenberg, Randall (Lynne) Schipper and Kerri (Mark) Teachout; cherished grandchildren, Brad (Stacey) Schipper, Matthew (Darlene) Schipper, Elizabeth (David) Mosbach and Emily Ehrenberg; and a great-granddaughter. He is also survived by sister June Holtvluwer; brother- in-law,Terry (Jan) Reinink; sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Larry) Sebring and Nancy (Roger) Bleeker; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Phil and MaryKay Berridge and Mark Epolito. Following Everett’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at New Life United Methodist Church, located on M46 in Lakeview, Michigan, on October 12, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions in his honor can me made to the New Life United Methodist Church.
