

Frederick J. McEvoy age 96, of Belmont, Michigan passed away October 1, 2015. He was born June 2, 1919 in Port Lambton, Ontario, Canada. He was the third of eight children, son of the late Frederick James McEvoy and Theresa (Reedy) McEvoy. He was twice drafted into the Canadian Army and served in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps during WW II. After the war, Mr. McEvoy immigrated to Michigan where he worked for Koepplingers Bakery for over 37 years and upon retiring, moved to Sunny Hills, Florida. Mr. McEvoy was an active member of his community and his church. He served on the credit union board of directors for: St. Bede, Our Lady of LaSalette, Birmingham Knights of Columbus, and Oakland Catholic Credit Unions. He served as an usher at St. Bede, Our Lady of LaSalette, St. Ann, and a Eucharist Minister at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Churches. He organized the St. Joseph the Worker fund raising bingo. He was a member of the Washington County Fl. Taxpayers Association, The Sunny Hills Florida Crime Patrol Captain, curator and administrator of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery, and a fourth degree Knights of Columbus. Mr. McEvoy was honored with two Pensacola, Florida Archdiocesan volunteer awards, as well as being awarded the Washington County Citizen of the Year. Mr. McEvoy was the beloved husband of Virginia (Van Hooren), and the late Mary Catherine (McCarron). He is the dear father of Theresa (Gerald) Szarama, Betty McEvoy, Charlie (Linda) McEvoy, Ann (Richard) Goshi, Frederick J. McEvoy, Tom (Deborah) McEvoy, and Mary (Gary) Harrell. Predeceased by a son James Patrick McEvoy and stepson Bruce Whalen. He was the step-father of Doris (Bruce) Inman, Pat (Charlie) Brown, Paul Whalen, Kathy (Barry) Allen, Barbara Skarvan, Teresa Whalen, Ed (Vicky) Van Hooren, Leo (Pat) Van Hooren and Elizabeth Van Hooren. He was the brother of the late Daniel (Verna) McEvoy, late Catherine (Ernie) Myers, late Thomas (Florence) McEvoy late Marie (Ernie) Green, Betty (Ted deceased) Reek, late Agnes (Ron) Bradd, and Patrick (Mildred) McEvoy. Mr. McEvoy is survived by 28 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may meet the family at Reyers North Valley Chapel, 2815 Fuller Ave. NE, Grand Rapids on Monday October 5, 2015 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday Oct 6th at St. Patrick’s Church, 4351 Parnell Ave. NE, Ada, MI at 1pm, with Father Mark Peacock officiating. Interment and graveside service will be held at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Sunny Hills, Florida with Msgr Francis Szczykutowicz officiating.
