I wanted to thank everyone for your messages and thoughts. I am planning on making a book with stories about my dad, his involvement with local baseball and anything related. If anyone has any good "Goadie" stories, you can email me at

Growing up as a bat boy for Sullivans, I had the privilege of learning a ton about baseball and life from Gary. He was a positive influence on me during a formative age - and it was always a pleasure bumping into him from time to time. Condolences to Gary's family for the loss.

My Condolences to all of Gary's family. I had the pleasure to get to know Gary very well the past few years. I've known Gary since high school days at Creston and we have gotten to know each other very well through our mutual interest in sports, radio, records, and music. Gary has been to my house many times the past few years just to sit around and listen to music and talk about the good old days. RIP Gary my friend. I'm going to miss your phone calls and visits to our house.

People do not realize how many young players Gary helped get an opportunity to get a college education and play college baseball. Through his scouting and networking, he opened doors for many through his persistence and hard work. We were the grateful recipients of some of these guys. Thanks "Goadie". You will always have a spot in the hearts of those who comprise the GR baseball community. Terry Bocian/Athletic Director /Aquinas College

I will always remember Gary in my days while playing for Sullivans. I ran into Gary again this summer'14 while watching the OK-Red All-star baseball game that he was announcing. It was nice to visit with him again after so many years. I am grateful for knowing Gary and the contributions he made in my life.

Gary had an unbelievable memory. When he was my asst. coach during a game he said to me, "2 years ago the batter struck out on a low outside curve ball." I motioned to the catcher, low outside curve ball, and the batter struck out! I could tell hundreds of stories like that. I will really miss you, Gary.
