Jerry honorably served his country, first in the United States Air Force, then later in the National Guard. He was so proud to be an American.
Those who knew Jerry, knew he had quick wit especially when it came to puns. He was very smart and he was continuing to learn any chance he got, from politics to religion.
Jerry was a nature lover. Since he often took long walks, he made himself a few walking sticks to help get around outside. He was often carving little figurines, showing them off to people, and proudly stating, “Look at what I made!”
After his family, Jerry loved his animals the most. He and Carole had many shih tzus they loved dearly, especially Patches.
Jerry is survived by two sisters, Patricia Gabbert and Lola Balszczyk; sister-in-law Gert Johnston; friends Roger Scheele, Mike Cobb, and the Davis family; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Carole (Pastoor) Johnston; twin brother Harold Johnston; brothers Howard Johnston and Gordon Johnston; sisters June Keenan and Loretta Meyer; and his parents.
A funeral service will take place at Reyers North Valley Chapel on Wednesday, June 8 at 12:00 p.m. with visitation beginning an hour prior.
