Geraldine Muriel Friskey

Geraldine Muriel Friskey, age 99, passed away at Courtland Riverside Gardens Assisted Living on January 26, 2025. Gerri was born in Grand Rapids on June 19, 1925, one of the two children born to Matthew & Linnea (Rundquist) Schmitt.

After graduating from Lee High School, Gerri was united in marriage on May 7, 1945 to William Stolsonburg. Together, they raised two sons. She spent her career working as a legal secretary for what is now Varnum Attorneys at Law in Grand Rapids. She retired in 1991.

In 1984, she was united in marriage to Robert Friskey. Together, they traveled extensively. She was able to visit 48 of the 50 states, went on countless cruises and enjoyed their retirement years in Port Charlotte, Florida. She fondly recalled her years in Florida as her happiest.

Outgoing and very social, Gerri loved to stay active. She was an avid golfer, and was still teeing up when she was 96 years old. She enjoyed square dancing, playing cards and was a voracious reader. She loved Bingo, and was even involved in the Red Hat Society. Her feisty spirit and spunky attitude were just part of the attributes that contributed to her well-lived and long life.

Gerri is survived by her sons: Larry (Kay) Stolsonburg and Robert (Alice) Stolsonburg; her grandsons: Craig (Bridget), Tom (Jenny), Paul (Diane) Joe (Marisa), Mike (Jennifer) and John (Carey) Stolsonburg; her granddaughters: Laura (Jason) Hozeska and Ann (Calvin) DeVogel; 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter and her older brother Matthew Schmitt as well as many other relatives.

Gerri has been cremated, and private family services will held at a later date.
