June 3, 1918 – January 5, 2020
Harold Welmerink, age 101, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 5, 2020.
Harold was born June 3, 1918 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. As a young man Harold joined the US Navy during WWII. He was stationed in the Atlantic theater and served as a radioman and Sonar technician from 1941 to 1945. During that time, he met and married Margaret Faust of Philadelphia. After the war they retuned to Grand Rapids and Harold worked as a milkman for Buth Dairy and as a truck driver for Clemens Trucking. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for many years and served as an usher at Blessed Sacrament Church. He enjoyed fishing and golfing in his spare time. Harold was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and a friend to all who knew him. He was always ready with a smile and a helping hand. He was an avid fan of Michigan football and the Detroit Tigers. Later in life, he was fond of visiting the casino and having a BUD (or two). His family will remember his laughter and sense of humor in all circumstances as well as his infectious smile.
Harold was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Margaret (Honey), his granddaughter Michelle Krizan, his parents Ben and Mary Welmerink, brothers John and Marvin and sister Louise Pedley.
He is survived by his daughter Carol Krizan and son David (Cris) Welmerink, grandchildren Kimberly Thomas, Terri (Mark) Ludmer, Adam (Diana) Welmerink, Luke (Erika) Welmerink, Emily Welmerink and Eric (Jessica) Welmerink, great grandchildren Blake, Ian, Claire, Isaac, Elizabeth, Lennon, Olivia, Wyatt, Kylie and Sawyer and many nieces, nephews and friends.
