On Wednesday, June 16, Jack Tamboer, loving husband and father of three children passed away at the age of 89. Jack was born on February 9, 1932, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to John and Bertha Tamboer. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1954 and worked in the furniture industry for his entire career, including 28 years at Baker Furniture Company. Jack served in the Army at Fort Knox from 1954 to 1956. On August 20, 1955, he married Janet Schafer in Lansing, Michigan. They raised three children together: Cheri (Czerney), Doug and John.
Jack had a passion for travelling, golf, the outdoors, and countless building projects for his entire family. Jack especially loved planning parties and events to bring family and friends together. His love of the outdoors is carried on by his children and grandchildren. Jack loved woodworking and was always willing to put his skills to work for anyone who needed it. His favorite project was a cabin in the woods that he designed and built with his sons and grandchildren in Tustin, Michigan.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marilyn Page. He is survived by his wife Jan and his three children, as well as seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Memorial Visitation will be held on Monday, June 21, from 4 to 8 pm, with a Rosary Service at 7pm at Reyers North Valley Chapel. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 am, Tuesday, June 22, at St. Jude Catholic Church located at 1120 4-Mile Road NE, Grand Rapids. Family and friends may also visit prior to the Mass, at 10 am.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Emmanuel Hospice or All Saints Academy.
