James Donald Brumels, age 89, passed away on February 21, 2024. Jim was born in Grand Rapids on April 12, 1934 to Fred & Gertrude (Dekker) Brumels. After graduating from college, Jim joined the Navy and proudly served his country during the Korean War.
In 1955, he was united in marriage to the love of his life Nancy Thompson. Together, they raised six children and a dog named Ginger.
After his honorable discharge, Jim spent his 30 year career working for the IRS. After retiring, Jim worked for Amway before he and Nancy decided they were better suited for warm weather. They spent 13 years in Naples, Florida and for several years, Jim spent time working at Publix grocery store.
Jim was a past president of both, Comstock Park School Board and the Grand Rapids Federal Employee Credit Union. He was a member of the American Legion and Highland Hills Baptist Church.
A huge Spartan fan, when Michigan State sports were on, Jim was cheering “Go Green.” He also loved his fishing trips to Canada with his buddies.
The most important thing about Jim Brumels was his love for Jesus. He has been telling family and close friends for years that he cannot wait to meet Jesus, and now he is face to face with his savior.
I Corinthians 15:55 “O Death, where is thy sting? O Grave, where is thy victory?”
From his love for Jesus flowed a love for his family, the devoted husband, loving father and caring grandfather will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Jim is survived by his wife of 68 years, Nancy; his children: Mark (Pamela) Brumels, Rebecca (Joel) Van Wingerden, Karen (Richard) Bekins, Gary (Jodi) Brumels, James (Dawn) Brumels and David (Katie) Brumels; 26 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren as well as many other relatives.
