Jean Louise Amidon

Jean Louise Amidon (McConnaughey), age 91, died on September 22, 2017 in the company of her family and in the comfort of her home. Jean was born in the summer of 1926 in Wyoming, MI to James and Josephine (Gray) McConnaughey. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Emmit Amidon Jr., and their son, Kenneth Amidon, her siblings, Mary Alice (Salisbury/Bryant), Kathryn (Hoekstra), Robert, Jack, David and James. Jean is survived by her children, Carol J. Amidon of Grand Rapids, Doug Amidon (Carol) of Kentwood, Laurie (Bob) Murphy, of Battle Creek, Larry Amidon (Carol) of Grand Rapids, Terry Amidon (Marianne), Comstock Park and Nancy (Kevin) Spuller of Walhalla; 8 grandchildren, Bradley, Matthew (Kaylyn), Andrew, Kyle, Kellie, Sara Ostrander (Ryan), Kevin and Nicole and 3 step-children, Jessica, Dakota and Joshua and 5 great-grandchildren, Maci, Mia, Hayli, Wesson and Malachi. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Jean enjoyed spending countless hours with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed being with family, never missing the opportunity to attend family reunions. She enjoyed the outdoors, crafts and puzzles. She worked at Blessed Sacrament School for many years, and dedicated many countless hours to volunteering for the school and church. She was awarded and acknowledged as “Volunteer of the Year” in 1993 for her time and dedication to the school. Please join her family for visitation at Reyers North Valley Chapel on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 from 5-8pm with a rosary at 7:30pm The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish with Rev. George Darling officiating. An additional hour of visitation will take place prior to the Funeral Mass at church begining at 11am. Jean will be laid to rest next to Emmit in Resurrection Cemetery.
