Jessie Ypenga Jakolat, aged 105, passed away on August 4, 2018. She will be sorely missed by her daughter, Lynda Allen, as well as her devoted family and a wide circle of special friends. All benefited from her willingness to share her wisdom and advice. She listened to others with an attentive heart, and she responded to them with the deepest care and love. An only daughter from humble beginnings, she learned the importance of relationships early in her life. Predeceased by her loving husband, Walter, she provided a strong foundation in their home for values of honesty and sincerity. Throughout her life, as a way of living out her faith, she mentored others, particularly young women, who could capture her enlightened spirit. While working at White and White, she was a loyal employee who never missed an opportunity to welcome people into her life. She will be remembered for having this unique, welcoming spirit and for the emphasis she placed on education. In her retirement, she volunteered many rewarding hours at Meijer Gardens and lovingly knitted for others, especially prayer shawls. To everyone in her life, she was a light of hope and joy. Pastor Kevin Sullivan will preside over a Memorial Service on August 17, 2018 at 1: 00 PM at Faith Lutheran Church, 2740 Fuller Ave. NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505. In lieu of flowers, you may wish to make a contribution to the Faith Lutheran Memorial Fund.
