Joan Gwendolyn Bloom, 88, a long-time resident of the Grand Rapids, MI passed Friday the 31st of January, surrounded by her children. Born on May 27, 1931 in Sand Lake, Michigan to Otto (Maggie) Reed, and united in marriage on August 16, 1957 to her late husband Ronald Bloom of 55 years. Joan, received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Western Michigan University in 1953. She taught at Harrison Junior High and Shawnee Park Oral Deaf School during the 1960s, and later worked for the Department of Social Services in Grand Rapids. Joan loved her family and going “up north” to her cottage on Big Bass Lake. During her lifetime she enjoyed road trips, camping, and listening to sermons. She enjoyed her “sayings” and her wisdom was valued by her friends, children, and grandchildren. She was a Christian and lived her faith. She is survived by her son, Curtis (Mary) Bloom, daughter Kimberlee (Bob) Oom-Sprinkel, son Scott (Janine) Bloom, 9 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. Visitation to be held at Reyers North Valley Chapel, Friday February 7, 2020 at 10:00 AM, until the time of the Memorial Service at 11 AM. Donations may be made to Spectrum Hospice

Mom~

You are truly misses and my heart feel torn! I know you had a great life for many years with the whole family of Bloom and Reed side! We sure have a great memories cuz you have raised us and put us in a great times on both sides! This memories is hugh and always bring it up how fun it is! The last few weeks was quite hard to see you become weaker but always been a strong women that we know! Since you gotten weak...we helped you even it hurt us see you go thru in rough few weeks! We are glad you get to see everyone before you go...this still isn’t a goodbye ...we will meet you again!
Been thinking of you daily since you been gone and I am still in your home....I am having hard time to let you go cuz this memories in this home is where I was raised! I didnt want the home to go...have always love this place where my home is...this is the family belonging! Mom.... you will always be in my heart....I love you so much and thank you for raising us! One big thing...I am glad you get to meet my man, Bob Dixon for 8 yrs of knowing him and accept him in this family! Tell dad...Grandpa and Grandma Reed and Bloom hi for us! We love you so much!

We have known Joan since her daughter Kim and my sister Anita are best friends and met at a very young age at Shawnee park school for the deaf. Joan is a beautiful person inside and out. Our whole family is praying for you all and sending all our love!
May the arms of our lord and savior put his loving arms around you and comfort you all at this time..... until we meet again!

I am so sorry for you loss. I met Joan when my daughter, a friend of Kim invited us up to the cabin. Spent the week end with them there. It was obvious she was a special person. We never connected again after that but I thought of her very often.
