John Faye was called to heaven on July 5, 2022 to fill the vacancy of tour guide at the Pearly Gates. The job description was daunting. The applicant must have many years of experience, wonderful storytelling skills, a big booming voice, a positive attitude, and be an inspiration to all. John was a perfect fit!
For 46 years John served as the Senior Tour Guide at Amway World Headquarters in Ada, Michigan.
Remarkably this was his only job. Early in his career John’s duties also included being the Amway limousine chauffer. In this capacity he met and befriended many famous people. This experience added countless great stories to his repertoire. Many visitors to World Headquarters referred to him as the “Mayor of Amway” for his welcoming, friendly demeanor.
John had three passions in life. He loved movies, history and theater. His encyclopedic knowledge of these subjects was incredible. He was an expert on all things concerning the sinking of the Titanic, Grand Rapids and Ada Michigan history, Broadway musicals and Hollywood movies.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Connie Faye, grandparents Arthur and Mary Susan, his aunt Celene Idema and nephew Robert Prominski.
John is survived by his sister Mary (Bartie) and brother-in-law Scott Green, nephews James and Daniel Prominski, and Shane Green; niece Debbie (Mark) Kibler, and grand-nieces Cheyanne Prominski and Katelynne Kibler. His extended family includes Godson David and his wife Sarah and countless friends and colleagues from all over the world.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 24th from 4-6pm at the Van Andel Family Pavilion at Legacy Park located at 7450 River St. SE Ada, MI 49301. Please bring a chair, umbrella (rain contingency) and water. In memory of John please wear his favorite color red.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in John’s name to The Barn Theatre School for Advanced Theatre Training P.O. Box 277 Augusta MI 49012 or online at barntheatreschool.org/donate
