Joseph Adam Meko, 85 of Rockford passed away on March 20, 2018. Born on September 12, 1932 in Nanticoke Pennsylvania to Joseph and Lottie Meko. Survived by his wife of 59 years Patricia (Lewandowski) Meko, sons; Joseph (Jennifer) Meko and Matthew Meko. Grandchildren Brian, Kari and Alyssa Meko. Also survived by sister Delores (Emile) Burke and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death by parents; Joseph and Lottie and brother Edward Meko. After serving as a tank driver based in Germany during the Korean War, Joe worked as a postal worker, taught at the Arthur Murray Dance Centers, and attended Aquinas College under the GI Bill. A do-it-yourselfer who built his own home, Joe made his career as a teacher for Godwin Heights Public Schools for 43 years. When he wasn’t golfing winning a few local competitions, Joe enjoyed watching University of Michigan athletics and being of service at St. Jude Parish. His legacy includes his generous, supportive nature that he shared with his family, relatives, friends, and community. Thank you, Joe! We love you forever. A Visitation for Joe will be Tuesday April 3, 2018 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 11240 4 Mile Rd NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49525 starting at 10 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11 a.m. Military honors will be accorded to Joe from the Kent County Honor Guard and the U.S. Army. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude, Ship of Hope.
