

Joyce Marion Decker, age 80, of Grand Rapids, went to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday evening, October 13, 2015 after a brief illness. She was born early in the year of 1935 in Grand Rapids to Martin and Jean Decker who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sister-in-laws Charlotte and Judy Decker as well as by her nephew Jim Decker. She will be lovingly remembered by her siblings Dale (Lois) Decker, Don (Irene) Decker and Janet Decker as well as many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Joyce is also survived by her dear friend of many years Carlyne Seegraves. Joyce was a very respected and successful local businesswoman. After her father’s retirement she and her brothers owned and operated the family business, Decker and Sons Appliance, in Grand Rapids. Joyce was an active member of the New Day Church-on-the-Hill and a dedicated volunteer at both the Ronald Mcdonald House and Renucci Hospitality House in Grand Rapids. She also volunteered at the Porter Hills Retirement Communities as a cashier in their grocery store called the Emporium. She enjoyed wintering at her home in Bradenton Florida and summering at the family cottage on Murray Lake. She had also been an avid golfer and a competitive baseball player as a member of the Grand Rapids Chicks professional baseball team. A visitation with Joyce’s family has been scheduled to take place at the Reyers North Valley Chapel, Thursday October 15, 2015 from 5-8pm. An additional hour of visitation will be held prior to her 2pm funeral service, officiated by Rev. Dr. Phil Johnson, on Friday October 16, 2015 at the Thornapple Covenant Church. Joyce will be laid to rest at Graceland Memorial Park and Mausoleum during a private family committal service. Family requests that any memorial contribution made in Joyce’s memory be directed to the New Day Church on-the-Hill.
