Joyce Irene Herman

Joyce Irene Herman, age 86, of Grand Rapids, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2026. Joyce was born on March 16, 1940 to George and Dena Vanderlaan in Muskegon, Michigan, moving to Grand Rapids in 1960 following her marriage to Gordon. She began work as an EKG technician, a job she put her heart into. After raising two sons, she used her sewing talents to make gifts for others and was employed in a fabric store. Over the last four years, she was a resident of Rest Haven Home in Grand Rapids. She followed Christ throughout her life and was a member of Calvary Church on the East Beltline for the last 20+ years, volunteering in several ministries at the church, particularly with special needs kids. She saw her life purpose was to care for others.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Gordon, and is survived by: sons, James (Rhonda) Herman and Craig (Kris) Herman; 5 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026 at 2:00pm at Rest Haven Home, 1424 Union Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505.
