Joyce Louise McCarthy

Joyce Louise McCarthy aged 78 of Grand Rapids, went to be with her Lord on Monday, May 7, 2012. She was preceded in death by her grandson Anthony Granzotto. Joyce will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 57 years Donald, children; Kim (John) Granzotto, Stephen (Kelli) McCarthy, grandchildren; Jeremy (Esther), Matthew, Peter Granzotto, Liza, Sawyer McCarthy, great-grandchildren; Autumn, Wyatt Granzotto, brother and sister; Howard (Julie) Stephens, Karen (Bob) Bommelje and many nieces, nephews and friends. Joyce was a caring, generous, fun loving and spiritual person who loved to give back. People knew her as the “Cookie Lady” and she loved to pass her treats on to family and friends, even donating to the Ronald McDonald House. Joyce and Don were charter members of Zion Lutheran Church before joining Faith Lutheran Church. In her free time she loved knitting and sewing. Joyce graduated from Creston High School in 1953. She began her professional career at Woolworths and Bissell, before following her love of taking care of kids and working at Forest Hills Public Schools and Kent Skills Center. Everyone that knew Joyce will miss her ability to care for people unconditionally and the love she showed her family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Faith Lutheran Church, 2740 Fuller Ave NE with Rev Kevin Sullivan officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2-4 PM and 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the Reyers North Valley Chapel, 2815 Fuller Ave NE and one hour prior to the service at church on Thursday. Memorials can be made to Faith Lutheran Church or Kent County Humane Society.
