Judith A. Steele, age 78, was welcomed into her heavenly home on May 10, 2021 at Vista Springs of Wyoming. Judy was born in Grand Rapids on July 20, 1942 one of two daughters born to Robert & Lucille (Benson) Switzer. She was a lifelong resident of NE Grand Rapids, having graduated from Creston High School.

On April 28, 1962, Judy was united in marriage to the love of her life, Richard J. Steele. They celebrated 52 years of marriage before he preceded Judy in death in 2014.

Judy was very friendly and loved getting to know people. She was often on the phone catching up on the lives of friends and family. When her boys were young, Judy regularly volunteered at their school events, such as room parties and field trips. After staying home to raise her sons, Judy then went to work at Old Kent Bank for many rewarding years.

Judy is survived by her sons Tom Steele and Robert (Angela) Steele; her daughter-in-law Joanne Steele, and her grandchildren Pierce, Paige, Grace, Bo, Anya, Rock and Tripp as well as many other relatives. Besides her husband Dick, Judy was preceded in death by her parents and sister Myrna Rank.

Visitation for Judy will be held on Friday May 14, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at New Community Church; 2340 Dean Lake Ave. NE, Grand Rapids, where a funeral service will immediately follow at 12:00 p.m.

Tom and I were close friends in high school and I was over at their home a lot. Judy (Mrs. Steele) was seemingly always in a good mood and always willing to have a conversation about anything really. It meant very much to me at that time, and even today, that she went our of her way to be so very nice to me.

I look back very fondly of those times and she was certainly one of the big reasons. A very special lady!
