June Irene Nelson

June Irene (Stewart) Nelson of Sparta passed away peacefully on the evening of June 25, 2025 at the age of 82. She was born in Cadillac on June 19, 1943 to Leon C and Dorothy I (Soles) Stewart Jr of Hersey.

She graduated from Reed City High School in 1961. June joined the United States Army's Women's Army Corps (WAC) in 1964 and was stationed at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. She was given an honorable discharge in 1967.

In 1971 while living in Grand Rapids, she met and married Larry L Nelson, formerly of Cadillac.

June held several office roles over the years, with a break to focus on raising her children during their early years. Before retirement, those positions included years at Shield Insurance and Law, Weathers, and Richardson law office.

She was actively involved in the Sparta Moose Lodge for a number of years. She loved to play shuffleboard, read, shop, garage sale, crochet, watch mystery and crime shows, and acquire koala collectibles.

She is preceded in death by her husband Larry Nelson; son John Lee Nelson; parents Leon and Dorothy Stewart Jr; brothers Jack Stewart and Patrick Stewart.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sara M and Robert R Beduhn; sisters, Kathleen Ward and Ann Messenger; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Porter Hills Meadowlark Retirement Village and Corewell Health Hospice for the care and compassion they showed our mom in her final days.

Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life service at Reyers North Valley Chapel on July 9, 2025 from 4:00 to 6:00pm at 2815 Fuller Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505.
