June Ruth Simonait, age 91, peacefully went home September 26, 2023 to be with her maker. June was born on January 24, 1932 in Greenville the daughter of Arthur & Ruth (Christiansen) Larsen. She attended North Park Elementary and graduated from Creston High School in 1950.
In the early 1950’s, June met Frank Simonait. The young couple soon knew they were meant to spend their lives together and married. June would settled in homemaking, and raising her family that would grow to include 7 children.
In their 67 years of marriage, June and Frank enjoyed numerous trips around the country, and they especially loved the warmth of South Carolina and Florida, and beauty of the western US. They spent countless evenings moving in tandem across the dance floor to songs like June’s favorite “Stardust”. Many peaceful walks were taken together at Riverside Park just enjoying each other’s company.
Many summer days were spent on the north pier in Grand Haven with a fishing line in the water, and enjoying the sun. June was a faithful reader of the Grand Rapids Press, as well as many good books. She loved to treat her sweet tooth to a good turtle sundae or a Wendy’s frosty. She enjoyed country music especially Willie Nelson Johnny Cash. It is also save to say she probably saw every episode of Lawrence Welk, music was just a part of her soul. She also liked the sounds of the slot machines at the local casino and when she was ready to relax in the evening, she always had the television tuned to Wheel of Fortune.
June was a true matriarch to her family. She remembered every birthday with a card, and she was the happiest while hosting her family for gatherings for holidays and special occasions. She spent her time taking photos of her family capturing the memories being made. She loved to gab on the phone and would keep up with her family and friends with her frequent calls.
Her faith was an integral part of who June was and she frequently said “God will do things just the way he wants them done.” And her family finds comfort in the saying “The Seventh Hour God’s Perfection; He is never early or never late, He is always right on time”. As a fighter, at trait she inherited from her father, June stayed as long a God intended, and is now delighting in her heavenly home.
June is survived by her children: Lynda (Jim) Brevell, Lori (Jack) Ronda, Jim Simonait, Terry Simonait, Denny (Kathy) Simonait, Nancy (Jim) Domagalski and Bonnie Simonait; her grandchildren: Katie Newcomb, Kelly (Dolph) Odiorne, Kari (Ted) Heutche, Stacy Simonait, Michael Simonait, Eric Simonait, Tereasa Simonait, Kirsten Domagalski and Jacob Domagalski; her great-grandchildren: Hannah, Katie, Cameron, Noelle, Parker, Teddy and Evelyn; her brother-in-law Frederick Bruns and her sister-in-law Loraine Crago as well many nieces, nephews and cousins.
