Katherine "Katie" Bender

Katherine "Katie" Mary Bender, age 98, of Grand Rapids peacefully passed away on March 4, 2015 in Greenville, MI. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond, and daughter, Mary Visner. She is survived by a daughter, Kathleen TenWolde of Saginaw MI; grandsons, Christopher and Sirkka Castren-TenWolde of Helsinki, Finland; Dennis and Kristen TenWolde of Singapore; granddaughter, Michelle and David Speich of Needham MA; great-grandchildren, Eric and Amanda TenWolde of Helsinki and Ian and Alyssia TenWolde of Singapore; a niece, four nephews and several grand-nieces and nephews. Katie was an active real estate agent in the Grand Rapids area for over 40 years. She was member of St. Jude Catholic Church, serving as Eucharistic Minister for several years. Katie was also a past president of Blessed Sacrament Church Guild. She loved gardening and nature, particularly her woods, feeding birds and her four-footed companion, Tammy. The family would like to thank Our Place Cares of Greenville for giving her a loving and caring home the last four years of her life. Please join for visitation from 10-11am on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at St. Jude Catholic Church (1120 Four Mile Rd N.E., Grand Rapids, MI) followed by a Mass of Christian Burail beginning at 11am with Fr. Tom Vesbit officiating. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Catholic Church Ship of Hope.
