Larry Thomas Aldrich, age 74 of Grand Rapids, passed away at his home following a year long battle with cancer. Larry was born in Traverse City on June 27, 1950, one of 10 children born to Eugene & Evone Aldrich.
Larry spent a typical childhood growing up in a large family. He attended the local parochial schools excelling in basketball and football, graduating from St. Francis High School in 1968. He furthered his education at the local community college, before he was called to serve his country during the Vietnam War. In 1970, Larry entered the Army and proudly served his country for 3 years.
After his honorable discharge, Larry settled back in Michigan working in the manufacturing field. The 1980’s proved to be remarkable time for Larry, he met and married the love of his life, Judith Shively and together they grew their family to include their daughter.
When Larry was able to get away, he was frequently found outdoors. He loved to fish and hunt and took numerous camping trips including a seasonal lot in the Ludington area for the past 20 years. He also spent many years swinging a club out on the golf course. He loved having a four-legged companion in the house, and his current canines were Nikita and McKenna.
A quiet man, Larry enjoyed the peacefulness of the woods, the calm of the lake and the comfort of his home. His family and friends always felt his strong love and support, and he will be deeply missed.
Besides his wife of 39 years, Judy, Larry is survived by his daughter Tracey Aldrich; his siblings: Gary Aldrich, Tony Aldrich, Patricia (Steven) Gravelyn, Susan Aldrich, David (Linda) Aldrich, Barbara (Robert) Witkop, and John (Karen) Aldrich; his brothers-in-law: John Clouse and Jim LeMarbre and his sisters-in-law: Pat Tanner and Deborah Shively as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
