

Lorraine Korstanje Snowfleet, age 90, born March 4, 1921, passed away May 14, 2011 at Porter Hills Village. Lorraine was born in Racine, Wisconsin and grew up in Muskegon Heights, Michigan. She moved to Grand Rapids when she married in 1941. Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Walter Snowfleet, by her sister Nellie Chynoweth, and by her brother Samuel Korstanje. She is survived by her daughters, Sheryl Johnson of Jenison, Michigan, and Kay Snowfleet of Rio Rancho, New Mexico. She is also survived by nieces Sandi Pritchard, Sue Ann Moore, Heidi Schaalma, Kim Johnson, and Jane Bovee; and by nephews Dr. Wallace Snowfleet, Connell Wittkopp and Lance Wittkopp. During WWII, Lorraine worked as a secretary in a defense manufacturing plant; she did not work outside the home after the war ended. She was a devoted wife and mother. A warm and loving person, she was beloved by all who knew her. Lorraine attended Second Congregational Church for many years prior to her move to Porter Hills. The staff at Porter Hills made the final 6 years of her life some of her happiest years. A memorial service for Lorraine Korstanje Snowfleet who passed away May 14, 2011 will be held at Porter Hills Chapel, 3600 E Fulton St, Grand Rapids, MI 49546 on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 2pm., Rev. Melody Johnson, Chaplain, Porter Hills Retirement Communities, will lead the service. The family will be in the lobby to receive condolences during the hour preceding the service. Light refreshments will be served after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Porter Hills Foundation.
