Lowell E. Sommers

Lowell E. Sommers, age 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 26, 2017 while in the comfort of his home and surrounded by his family. He was born in 1927, in Wauseon Ohio, to the late Ella and Raymond Sommers. Along with his parents, Lowell is preceded in death by his sisters Virginia Erbskorn and Helen Sommers and grand-daughter Lindsey Marie Riemersma. He will be missed by his beloved wife of over 64 years Dolores (Schmitz), and their children Sandra (Tom) VanderVoord, Debra (Art) Metzger, Brenda (Joe) Martinez, Timothy (Robin) Sommers, Linda (Denny) Riemersma, Lisa (Ty) VanderHoff and Melanie (Bill) VanderHoff; 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Lowell proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Helena. Lowell spent most of his career as financial manager at Commercial Credit and also worked at City Loans. He enjoyed bowling and doing yardwork. Lowell looked forward to Saturday morning breakfast with his loved ones. He was a devoted family man and will be remembered as a loving husband and father. A Celebration of Lowell’s life has been scheduled to take place on Friday, December 1, 2017, at Reyers North Valley Chapel. The service will begin at 2:00pm with a visitation to follow until 4:00pm.
