COVID-19. Dawn was born in Grand Rapids on July 10, 1936 to Harold & Grace (Packer) Elliott.
On Christmas Eve in 1954, Dawn was united in marriage to the love of her life, Donald Guppy, Sr. The
two spent a life time making memories and working hard together to support their family that would
grow to include seven children.
In 1957, Don and Dawn jumped at the chance to be business owners and purchased the Choo Choo Grill
on the corner of Plainfield and Leonard, and they ran the restaurant side by side until their daughter and
son-in-law took over in 1997.
When Dawn wasn’t working, she enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She is famous in the family for her
lovingly knitted Christmas socks that she made for everyone; on the last count they numbered over 100.
She also crocheted beautiful baby blankets for all the new little ones that joined the family. Dawn was
a great cook and baker and made the best chocolate chip cookies, goulash and scalloped
potatoes!
Dawn was a spunky lady with a can-do attitude. She had an incredible work ethic she passed down to
her children, and she made a legacy of incredible memories with three generations of grandchildren.
Her family was her greatest passion and she will be missed.
Dawn is survived by her children: Darcie (Rick) Mack, David (Josephine) Guppy, Steve (Connie) Guppy,
Dawn (Tom) Green and Randy (Michele) Guppy; her daughter-in-law Carol Guppy; her grandchildren:
Nicholas, Lynette, Rick Jr., Shanna, Alaina, Kinian, Elijah, Shiloh, Seth, Aric, Jenny, Alex, Kyle, Jessica, Levi, Mandy, Amelia, Ethan, Alan, Randy Jr., Jasmine, Abigail and Anthony; her great-grandchildren: Madelyn, Rebecca, Evan, Audrey, Brynn, Camryn, Benjamin, Drew, Ricky, Charlie, Reese, Ruby, Raven, Nora, Ian, Dawson, Jack, Ellarie, Willow, Presley, Konner, Spencer, Maris, Michael, Olivia, James, Lily, Baylynn, Kade, Logan, Colin, Easton, Axel, Aurora, Ruby as well as her great-great grandson, Landon; her sister Betty Henderson and her brother Melvin (Linda) Elliott as well as many other family members.
Dawn was preceded in death by her husband Donald Guppy, Sr. in
1997, her son Donald Guppy Jr., her grandson Donald Guppy III, her infant daughter Wendy, her sisters
Flora Jane Porter and Carrie Gierth and her brothers Harold “Curly” Elliott, Kenneth Elliott and Robert
Elliott.
Due to the current pandemic restrictions, private services will be held with burial to follow next to her
husband in Plainfield Township Cemetery.
