Marjorie Ann Neering was born to Christine and Clarence Uhlmann on a glorious June day sometime in the past century in Essexville, Michigan (the exact date has been forgotten by most at Marjorie’s request). Marjorie was clever, honest, supportive and fiercely loyal to those she cared most about. She was married to an equally wonderful man who matched her wit and perhaps strong will, John Arthur Neering, on October 19th, 1954. Marjorie was the best bridge player in the greater Grand Rapids area (don’t tell the rest of her bridge group). She loved Broadway musicals, tea, gin, cooking, rich foods, red wine and New York City and instilled a passion for most of these things into most of her five children. Marjorie is survived by John and those five children mentioned above; Jan Neering Kelly, Gretchen Neering Clarke, John Neering, Karl Neering and Erik Neering, listed in no particular order (depending on who you ask). She also leaves behind six lovely (again, depending on who you ask) grandchildren; Kendall, Samantha, Maicee, Grant, Connor, Maximo, and one chubby pointer mix, Jule. Each of them fondly referred to her as “Fluffy”. Marjorie passed on peacefully early in the morning on June 3rd, 2020. She was likely concerned about what the rest of 2020 has in store for the world and wanted to move on to a better place before finding out. Visitation for Marjorie will be held at St. Alphonsus Church 224 Carrier St. NE, Grand Rapids, Michigan on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 from 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please follow this link https://emmanuelhospice.org/donate/ and donate what you can to Emmanuel Hospice who provided amazing care and comfort to both John and Marjorie during her final months on this Earth.
