

Maxine Evans, age 97 of Grand Rapids, passed away on November 28, 2021. Maxine was born in Wyandotte, Michigan on March 8, 1924 to William & Myrtle (Pushman) Guy. She is survived by her children and step-children: Sherri (Michael) Robinson, Sandie Merryman, Jackie (Dennis) Kaminski, Michael (Dana) Evans, Marie (Tim) Dietz, Milissa (Dale) Soderstrom and Mark Evans; her sister Beverly (Norm) Galaska, several grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Maxine was preceded in death by her first husband, John T. Mason, her second husband William W. Evans and her grandson Brad Kerkstra.
After graduating from Ecorse High School, Maxine attended Dermawave University. Upon completing beauty school, Maxine used her talents as a beautician to assist in her modeling and always making sure her hair and makeup was on point.
During the WWII, she went to work for the Willow Run Bomber Plant, but eventually, being a business owner was the career meant for Maxine. She owned the Ten Pin Cocktail Lounge. She also was the owner and manager of three mobile home parks before she retired.
When she wasn’t working, Maxine was a member of the Power Squadron, Shriners, Marco Island Players and Marco Island Country Club. She played golf and even scored a hole in one! She loved dancing, and was found with her husband on the ballroom dance floor whenever possible. She also enjoyed bowling and to take cruises.
Maxine was a woman of faith. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church for many years until her and her husband Bill moved to Florida to spend their retirement on the sunny beaches.
A private family service is planned with burial at Graceland Memorial Park.
Memorial donations in memory of Maxine may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
