Michael John Walsh

Michael John Walsh passed away on September 10, 2026, the same day he was welcomed into the world 78 years earlier in 1948. Mike was born in Grand Rapids to James and Virginia (Klees) Walsh and was a lifelong resident of the area.

In 1972, Mike was joined in marriage to the love of his life, Sally Westcott. Together, they raised two children and enjoyed watching their family grow to include grandchildren and their first great-granddaughter.

With a career as truck driver, Mike spent many years making long haul trips across the country and back. When he wasn’t working, he was frequently found at the Casino Club of Grand Rapids where he spent many years serving on the board. He also appreciated the social connections he made through his membership at the American Legion.

Mike will be remembered for finding delight in simple pleasures like the love of a good dog, an ice-cold beer and sharing a good laugh with friends and family.

Mike is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sally; his daughter Jody Johnson; his son Jeffrey (Kathy) Walsh, his grandchildren: Nathan (Alayna), Adrienne and Sophie Johnson and Dylan, Mykee and Aydan Walsh; his great-granddaughter Myla Johnson; his siblings: Kathy Batchelder, Barb (David) Zaskiewicz and Kevin (Mary) Walsh and his sister-in-law Linda Walsh as well as many other relatives. In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his brother Patrick.

Per Mike’s request, he has been cremated and there are no formal services planned at this time.
