While attending Caledonia schools, Bob ran on the track team where he excelled in his events. It was during this time, that he met his future bride, Judith MacFall. The young couple fell in love while sipping sodas at Loveland’s Drug Store. Bob and Judy were united in marriage in 1963.
Bob proudly served his country in the US Army. His time in the service jump started his career in transportation. He began working as a mechanic and was soon promoted to the honor of chauffeuring visiting dignitaries and high-ranking officers around the base.
Upon his honorable discharge, Bob continued his career as a professional driver. He worked for Executive Coach and was a car courier for Infiniti. He also enjoyed the road trips that came from side gigs driving vehicles cross-country for those who preferred to fly to their destination.
Cars were not just a profession for Bob. Over the years, he owned several fun cars including Corvettes and Mustangs. His favorite was his first car, a coral and gray ‘55 Chevy. He also enjoyed “flipping” old conversion vans for a hobby. It wasn’t uncommon for Bob to buy a convertible in September only to sell it the following May.
Bob and Judy settled their family on Pine Street. The numerous block parties, pool parties, and football watch parties in “Bob’s Garage” created countless memories and lifelong friends.
With a love for dogs, Bob had several over the years. Katie Pearl, the yellow lab and Rita the fluffy Bichon were his favorites. When he was a younger man, Bob was frequently found on the golf course. After several back surgeries forced him to put away the clubs, his social circle moved to Van’s Pastry where he enjoyed a cup of coffee and solving the world’s problems among friends. He also found peace enjoying the sun on his face just relaxing on his deck.
Most importantly, Bob was a family man. He was a devoted husband, caring and loving dad and inspiring grandpa. However, the addition of great-grandchildren is what brought Bob the greatest joy. He will forever be known as “Great Great Great Great Grandpa”.
Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years, Judy; his daughters: Lori (Joe) Korreck and Robyn (Vicki Makley) VanderTill; his grandsons: Andy (Mihal), Sam (Caitie) and Tim Korreck; his great-granddaughters: Lila and Rosalie; his siblings: Joann Faber, Lois Barkema and Doug (Toni) VanderTil and his sisters-in-law Eunice VanderTill and Herta VanderTill as well as many other relatives.
Visitation for Bob will be held on Friday June 19, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Reyers North Valley Chapel, where a funeral service with military honors will be held on Saturday June 20, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. The family will also receive friends for 1 hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Bob may be made to the American Heart Association.
