Ruth Jane Broyles

Ruth was born on September 4, 1935 in Grand Rapids to Carl and Pauline (Benning) Bowen. Ruth was a Life Member of the Moose Lodge and VFW Creston Post, American Legion and AmVets.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbor “Bud” Broyles, as well as her previous husband and the father of her children, James “Bob” R. Atwood; her brothers Bob Bowen, Donald (John) Bowen, Bill Bowen; and her granddaughter, Patricia Atwood.

She is survived by her children; James (Gisela) Atwood, Dan (Sonia) Atwood, David Atwood, Debra (Jeff) Atwood-Stout and Catrina (Jeff) Emmons; her grandchildren Kathy Atwood, Jennifer Atwood, Mindy (Anthony) Day, David Atwood, James (Ashley) Atwood, Barbara (Ernie) Garcia, Anthony Atwood, Amelia Emmons and Justine Emmons; great grandchildren John Atwood, Taylor Atwood, Peyton Atwood, Christopher Atwood, Codey Proper, Cameron Proper, Mila Day, Vanessa Garcia, Gigi Garcia and Terry Lowery III; her sisters: Betty Gray, Dorothy Gardner, Carol (Steven) Safranski; brother Rodney (Faith) Mottl; In-laws: Karen Bowen, Sue Bowen, Tom Cardinal, Margaret (Steve) Ickes and many nieces and nephews.

She is dearly remembered by special friends, Tammy Roerig, Tom Cunniffe, Carol Lubbers and Emma Ryan.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday January 23, 2024 from 2-4 and 7-9 at Reyers North Valley Chapel, 2815 Fuller Avenue NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505. In lieu of flowers please consider memorial contributions to the Salvation Army Senior Program or Gilda’s Club of Grand Rapids.
