Tom served his country in the United States Army. He went on to earn a Masters in Business Administration from Aquinas College and Graduated from Cooley College of Law where he earned his Juris Doctor Degree. Tom worked for over 30 years as an attorney for the Federal Bankruptcy Court. He was in the process of stepping away from his practice and finally looking to retire. In his freetime Tom loved to be outdoors. He was always traveling to new places and hiking wherever and whenever he could. He was a fun and charismatic person who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Tom was preceded in death by: parents, Benjamin and Lena Bruinsma; brother, James S. Bruinsma; niece, Wendi M. Bruinsma; and great nephew, Aaron M. Gootjes.
Tom is survived by: siblings, Benjamin (Pat) Bruinsma Jr., Barbara (Mike) Rooze, and William (Rose) Bruinsma; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Marcia Bruinsma; as well as, many extended family and close friends.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2024 from 3:00pm - 7:00pm at Reyers North Valley Chapel, 2815 Fuller Ave NE. Grand Rapids, MI 49505.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Paws with a Cause, or the Humane Society of West Michigan.
