Warren “Doc” Blanchard aged 81, of Grand Rapids passed away Monday, January 24, 2011. Warren was born in Grand Rapids and attended Central High School before serving as a Medic and Sergeant in the Korean Conflict. He was the longtime owner and founder of Forest Hills Inn. When he wasn’t working at his first passion he enjoyed golf and bass fishing. Warren was a talented athlete who played semi-pro baseball and nicknamed after Doc Blanchard the Army football great. Warren will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years Ruth, children: Dr. Deborah Blanchard, Kathy (Al) Huisman, Philip (Dr. Andrea Rotzien) Blanchard, Teresa (Kim) Thomet, Doug (Anna) Blanchard, Laura (Mike) Essex; grandchildren: Lee, Shanan, Josh, Megan, Andy, Sara, Allison, Kevin, Lauren, Nick, Valerie, Maggie, Alex, Jack, Sara, Deena; great-grandchildren: Aaron, Lorelei, Brook, Emma, Abby, Carson and his nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at St Alphonsus Catholic Church 224 Carrier St NE with Rev. Andrew Thompson C.Ss.R. as celebrant. Friends and relatives may greet the family on Friday from 4-7Pm at the Reyers North Valley Chapel 2815 Fuller Ave NE or 1 hour prior to the service at church. The Rosary will be prayed on Friday at 7:00 PM at the funeral home. For those who wish, memorials can be made to Friends of the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans or St Alphonsus Capital Campaign.
