Alan James "Al" Benton

Alan James “Al” Benton passed away on September 14, 2025 in Belton, MO at the age of 78. Born on January 3, 1947, along with twin sister, Susan, in Carthage, MO to Frank and Mary Jane Benton. Al lived a life marked by dedication to his work, service to his country, and time spent enjoying the company of friends and family.

Al proudly served in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. His time in the military reflected his strong sense of duty and commitment to serving others.

During his military service, he met Nancy Hyre in 1969 and whom he married in March 1970. They were married for 55 years and enjoyed traveling, gambling, hunting antiques and spending time with loved ones.

Al and Nancy resided in Ohio for the first 15 years of their marriage before then relocating to Seneca, MO where they lived for another 15 years. Al was a foreman at Eagle Pitcher in Joplin, MO and then moved on to the research and development department. Al and Nancy moved to Raymore, MO in January 1999 and he then began working as a sales specialist at Electronic Supply where he retired from in June of 2016.

Al found joy in simple pleasure- he especially enjoyed spending time with friends and gambling. Whether sharing stories or testing his luck, he valued camaraderie and good times.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Benton; his daughter, Allison Benton; his sister, Fran Grunden (husband Jerry); brother-in-law, Bobby Hyre (wife Ginger); sister-in-law, Debbie Deeter; sister-in-law, LuAnne Mantia; brother-in-law, George Todd; brother-in-law, Richard Ward, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Al was preceded in death by his daughter, Monique Benton; his twin sister, Susan Ward; his brother, Roger Benton; his mother, Mary Jane Benton; and his father, Frank Benton.

Graveside services will be at 12:30 pm on Monday, October 20, 2025 at Leavenworth National Cemetery with Military Honors, 150 Muncie Rd, Leavenworth, Kansas, and in lieu of flowers, donations to Habitat for Humanity or The American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
