The daughter of Golden and Nelly (Nambo) Smith, Anita was raised in a nurturing household that instilled in her the values of compassion and generosity. She carried these values forward throughout her life, touching the hearts of everyone she encountered. Though Anita's parents predeceased her, their legacy of love and kindness continued to shine through her actions and spirit.
Anita's journey of love began on August 11, 1979, when she married her beloved husband, William, in Wichita, Kansas. Together, they celebrated 46 wonderful years of marriage, raising two children, Lisa and William T., who were the pride and joy of her life. Her family was the center of her universe, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Anita found immense joy in her role as a grandmother to Dennis, Logan, and Elizabeth, who were her greatest treasures.
A proud alumna of Wichita East High School, Anita graduated in 1974 and continued her education at Wichita State University for two years. She found fulfillment in her professional life as a Shift Manager and trainer at Long John Silver's, where she worked diligently from 2000 until her retirement in 2024. Her colleagues and customers alike admired her dedication, leadership, and unwavering positivity.
Anita's vibrant personality extended beyond her professional life into her community involvement. A long-time member of the American Coaster Enthusiast organization, she volunteered at numerous regional events, sharing her passion and enthusiasm for roller coasters with fellow enthusiasts. Her presence at these events was always a source of joy and inspiration.
In her later years, Anita discovered a love for creating silk flower arrangements, a hobby that allowed her to express her creativity and bring beauty to the lives of her friends and family. Her arrangements were more than just decorations; they were tokens of her affection and warmth.
Anita was known for her happy personality and her remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued. She was a confidante, a source of strength, and a bearer of hugs and comforting words to those who needed them. Her generosity of spirit and her unwavering support made her a beloved figure in both her family and her community.
Anita leaves behind her devoted husband William, her daughter Lisa Godfrey and son-in-law Dennis Godfrey, her son William T. Valliant, and her precious grandchildren Dennis, Logan, and Elizabeth. She is also survived by her sister Mary Trefethen and brother-in-law Howard Trefethen, who will forever cherish the memories of their time together.
Anita's life was a testament to the power of love, community, and kindness. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of warmth and compassion will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
A celebration of Anita's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory and the incredible impact she had on their lives. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Kansas City Hospice House, where Anita spent her final days surrounded by love and care.
Rest in peace, dear Anita. Your light will forever shine in our hearts.
