He was born August 10, 1943 to Sam & Suzanne Reyburn, the youngest of four boys Sam, Pete & Roger. He spent much of his formative years in Excelsior Springs, Missouri where his family owned a restaurant. He graduated high school in Arvada, Colorado.
He served 20 years in the US Air Force, retiring as a Technical Sergeant in 1982. During his stint in the Air Force, Dave was stationed all over the world, eating local delicacies and making lifelong friends wherever he went. From Germany where he stood on the Berlin Wall (and was shot at), to Turkey, Japan, Korea, England, to Spain.
Dave had a transformational encounter with Jesus and his Christian faith became a foundational part of his life. While in the military, he also joined the international Christian missions organization, Youth with a Mission and formed lifelong friendships. He adopted his long-awaited daughter Joanna in Spain in 1985 with his then-wife Susan. He was an incredibly devoted father and grandfather.
After returning stateside following his retirement from the Air Force, Dave received a degree in business from William Jewell College in May 1994, an accomplishment he was very proud of. He then worked for the cities of Excelsior Springs and Gladstone Missouri as a code inspector until his retirement in 2007. He could often be found on weekends assisting those same weekday code-violators with his volunteer efforts and use of his truck to clean up their properties.
Dave never met a stranger. He could talk to anyone, and did so all over the world. He was a jokester, and lived his life with a twinkle in his eye. He was the “fun uncle,” doting father, and ever-loyal friend. He enjoyed a wide variety of international & spicy foods. He gave of himself, and often; helping countless individuals move with the use of his truck, clean up their yards, and haul away trash. He supported numerous churches, charities and missions organizations up until his death. He loved to whistle, sing and even dance. Dave had a lifelong love of local sports, especially basketball, and very especially Winston high school and William Jewell college. He had strong feelings about how to organize a garage, and took great pride in peddling his daughter’s music to friends and neighbors. Dave was selfless and giving of himself to others and left a legacy that will not soon be forgotten. His family finds great solace knowing that he is at peace with his Savior.
He is survived by his daughter Joanna (Jason May); grandchildren Jackson, Christian, Camden and Josie; sisters-in-law Liz, Pat, and Mary Reyburn; and many nephews and nieces, cousins and many friends scattered around the world.
He will be buried at Winston Cemetery in Missouri next to his father and mother and will be remembered in a Celebration of Life to be scheduled at a later date.
